1,000 Drones, Red-Lit Bridges, and Millions of Fans: BTS Takes Over an Entire City

June 16, 2026

From private hotel activations and illuminated bridges to a 1,000-drone spectacle over the sea, BTS didn’t simply return to Busan—they transformed South Korea’s premier coastal destination into the most coveted cultural event on the planet.

BUSAN — For one extraordinary weekend, South Korea’s second-largest city ceased to be merely a travel destination and became something far more powerful: a living, breathing monument to BTS.

As millions of dollars flowed through the city and fans arrived from every corner of the globe, Busan was transformed into an immersive urban festival celebrating BTS’ first concert in the city in four years and the group’s milestone 13th debut anniversary.

The result was nothing short of a cultural takeover.

Through the ambitious “BTS The City Arirang — Busan” project, iconic landmarks, luxury hotels, beachfront attractions and even the night sky became part of a meticulously orchestrated experience designed around the world’s biggest music phenomenon.

The city’s skyline glowed crimson as Gwangan Bridge, Busan Harbor Bridge and Suyeonggang Human Bridge were illuminated in the signature red of BTS’ latest album, Arirang. Massive digital displays across Busan Station, Gwangbok-ro, Grand Josun Busan and the Busan Cinema Center continuously broadcast BTS visuals, creating an atmosphere more akin to a global sporting event or international exposition than a concert weekend.

But the true showstopper unfolded above the waters of Gwangalli Beach.

Over two consecutive nights, 1,000 synchronized drones painted the sky with breathtaking visuals inspired by Arirang tracks including “Swim,” “Normal,” “Hooligan,” and “Body to Body.” The aerial performance culminated with the faces of all seven BTS members appearing above the coastline—an unforgettable moment that triggered deafening cheers from thousands gathered below.

Meanwhile, Haeundae Beach became one of the city’s most photographed destinations thanks to a giant sand installation bearing the message “Keep Swimming,” while exclusive fan activations, interactive exhibitions and beachfront music lounges transformed the shoreline into a luxury-style experiential festival.

For international visitors, the weekend carried significance far beyond tourism.

This marked BTS’ highly anticipated return to Busan following the completion of military service by all seven members, reigniting a chapter many fans feared might never feel the same again.

Instead, the reunion appears to have exceeded expectations.

Fans traveled from Europe, North America, Southeast Asia and beyond, filling hotels, restaurants and retail districts while turning the city into a rare convergence of entertainment, travel and cultural prestige.

“History is going to be made again,” said Russian fan Andriana Iun, who relocated to Korea after first discovering BTS during a difficult period in her life.

Her sentiment echoed throughout Busan.

What began as a concert weekend evolved into a citywide celebration of loyalty, nostalgia and global influence—one capable of mobilizing hundreds of thousands of visitors and transforming an entire metropolitan area into a unified brand experience.

Local businesses eagerly joined the phenomenon. Restaurants launched BTS-inspired menus, hospitality operators introduced themed packages, and retail destinations created exclusive promotions aimed at the influx of international visitors.

The economic ripple effect was impossible to ignore.

Yet perhaps the most remarkable achievement was how seamlessly BTS blurred the lines between tourism campaign, cultural festival, music event and global fan gathering.

For many attendees, the emotional centerpiece remained the sight of all seven members together again.

“I wasn’t able to watch the first Busan concert, so being here now means everything,” said Filipino fan Deriz Quintana. “We waited for a long time. There was uncertainty about what things would feel like after military service. But seeing them together now—it’s even better than before.”

In an era where cities compete fiercely for global attention, Busan may have discovered a formula few destinations can replicate: combine one of the most influential music acts in history with an entire city willing to become the stage.

The result?

A coastal metropolis transformed into the epicenter of global pop culture—where bridges glowed red, drones lit up the sea, luxury hotels became fan destinations, and BTS once again proved that their influence extends far beyond music.

For one unforgettable weekend, Busan didn’t host BTS.

Busan became BTS.
